Lonely is the only top, parachute meI'm comin' back down
Upchurch's song "Parachute" is a song about the dangers of success and the pressures it brings, making someone feel lonely and detached from the world around them. The singer feels like he is outgrowing his current life, and he is on the verge of selling everything he has to buy something that reflects his current state of mind. He is looking for a place that resembles his innermost feelings of loneliness, where he can belong to something, and the sound associated with his idol Dale Earnhardt reminds him of it. Thus, he is in the middle of nowhere, where he feels alive.
The song is a critique of mainstream rap culture, where people have certain expectations from rappers to behave in a particular way. Upchurch suggests that he is bulletproof to these expectations and is, therefore, free to explore his creativity. He believes that his mental approach is exceptional, and his focus is what enables him to be successful. He challenges his listeners to relate to his feelings and become free from any labels or expectations that society puts on us.
